Finding DNA

Friedrich Miescher - 1869 - By collecting and washing out bandages from a local hospital, Miescher isolated what he called the "nuclein molecule," named after the nucleus in which it was found. At the time, Miescher did not realize it, but he had isolated DNA. Later, it would be determined that the nuclein molecule present in all cells was actually DNA.
